Mother Falcon_Field_PressFriday, February 28th, 2014 at the City of Davis Veterans’ Memorial Theatre.

Mother Falcon began as a group of young cellists eager to break out of the classical repertoire and evolved into an organic collective of musicians pushing into new musical territory.

Receiving accolades for both intimate performances and electrifying club shows, Mother Falcon has crafted a signature soundscape blending rock, jazz and hip hop rhythms with swirling horns and strings that alternately lead and support inventive vocal arrangements.
Their first LP, Alhambra, (2011) received immediate raves, and now the band is celebrating their acclaimed sophomore album, You Knew (2013). The orchestral-rock ensemble won over audiences last year at South By Southwest with intense performances, resulting in NPR Music including the band in “Bob Boilen’s 15 Essential Moments From SXSW 2013.”

Mother Falcon has worked with notable composers and popular musicians, continuing to win praise from peers and fans. They recently completed their second annual Music Laboratory, a summer camp for middle and high school orchestra students, and scored the documentary film “Star Nation.”

“Mother Falcon’s classical chops fuel a sound that soars with the grandiosity of Arcade Fire at its most anthemic.”NPR

“Infectiously catchy and intriguingly complex,” – Consequence of Sound

“Delicately parsed vocal lines swell to gigantic, room-engulfing choruses.”WNYC

tom-brosseau-TB-aa3-47-HI-JBShow opener Tom Brosseau is a folksinger and songwriter from North Dakota. Currently residing in Los Angeles, Brosseau’s 7th studio LP Grass Punks (2014) was recorded and produced by Sean Watkins (Nickel Creek) for Davis’ own Crossbill Records, and has met with growing critical support from NPR to Pitchfork, who picked the album’s “Cradle Your Device” as a featured track, saying “He could be a busker, trying to grab the attention of distracted passerby… Stop awhile and tune him in.”

He has toured alongside musicians like Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, John Doe, PJ Harvey, and Bonnie Raitt. Since 2010, Brosseau has performed with actor / musician John C. Reilly in John Reilly & Friends. In 2011, Reilly and Brosseau recorded a 7″ vinyl single entitled John & Tom produced by Jack White for Third Man Records.

Grass Punks…hits all the right notes…” and is winning praise far and wide.
